RUMC: Bridging Irish Medical Excellence with Malaysian Experience
RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC) is the only international branch campus in Malaysia established by two of Ireland’s most prestigious medical universities: the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and University College Dublin (UCD). This unique collaboration allows students to begin their journey in Dublin and complete their studies in Penang, Malaysia, combining centuries of Irish medical tradition with Southeast Asia’s rich cultural environment.
Why choose RUMC?
Irish medical heritage: With over 400 years of Irish medical education excellence, RUMC inherits the academic strength, innovative training, and global recognition of both RCSI and UCD, two of Europe’s leading medical institutions.
Dual-campus experience: Students spend the first 2.5 years in Dublin (Ireland) for pre-clinical studies, learning in world-class facilities and benefiting from globally renowned faculty. The final 2.5 years are completed in Penang (Malaysia), where students gain direct patient exposure, benefit from an excellent patient-to-student ratio in clinical training, and experience the advantages of study in Malaysia in a diverse and internationally recognized medical education environment.
Global recognition & accreditation: The degree is awarded by the National University of Ireland (NUI) and is recognised by international medical bodies including ECFMG, FAIMER, and WDOMS. It is also accredited by both the Irish Medical Council (IMC) and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC), ensuring global mobility for graduates.
Student life at RUMC
RUMC students benefit from the best of both worlds: The vibrant academic and cultural life of Dublin and the supportive, close-knit community of Penang. From cultural diversity to safe and affordable living, both campuses provide a nurturing environment for future doctors.
Beyond the classroom, RUMC students are immersed in experiences that shape not just their medical expertise, but their very character as future healthcare professionals. In Dublin, they navigate one of Europe’s most intellectually stimulating cities — engaging with world-class hospitals, international medical conferences, and a melting pot of cultures that broadens their global perspective. Meanwhile, in Penang, students are embraced by the warmth of a UNESCO-recognised heritage city, where the rhythm of daily life balances rigorous study with rich multicultural traditions, affordable comfort, and a genuine sense of belonging. Together, these two campuses do not merely offer a dual-location advantage — they craft a uniquely holistic medical education, one where students develop clinical sharpness alongside cultural intelligence, resilience alongside empathy, and professional ambition alongside a grounded human spirit.
